For help with the emPowerSD website, click on the graphic below to jump to a specific help topic or browse this page.
Basic Website Navigation
- To return to a previous page, use your Internet browser back button.
- To return to the emPowerSD home page, use the Home link under Site
Links.
- To start a new search for service, use the Search for
Service under Site
Links.
- To print a Map, use the Print Map
Tool.
- To save the Map as an image file, select the Print
Map Tool. Right-click on the Map on the Print Map Page, and choose to save the map image.
- To print the list of Search Results
Window, right-click on the Search Results
Window and select print.
- The Search Results Window can be manipulated (moved and resized) like any other
window. Certain actions within the mapping application will cause the Search Results
Window to become minimized. At any time you can restore the window to full
size for viewing the list of search results.
This window will display when you have selected to Search for a
Service from the Site Links. It will list all the services of the type selected, that are within the
specified distance.
From the Search Results Window you can choose to zoom to any one of
the services in the
list using the following button:  . This will cause the
Map to redraw with that service in the center and information about the service displayed below the
map in the Identify Results area. You can also choose to get
Driving Directions to that
service using the following button:  .
When you pause your mouse over a toolbar function or legend item, a tip will display to tell you
the effect of the function. The graphic above illustrates a tool tip for a
legend item.
 Zoom In Get a closer look at an area of
San Diego county. Left-click on the Zoom In tool and hold down to draw a rectangle around area of
interest on the map.
 Zoom Out Get a look at a larger section of
San Diego county. Left-click on the Zoom Out tool and hold down to draw a rectangle around center of
interest on the map.
 Pan Look at a different area of
San Diego county. Left-click on the Pan tool and drag the hand in the direction
in which you want to move the map.
 Identify Show detailed information on a
specific map feature, such as a school or hospital, when that layer is active.
 Reset Map Zooms out to entire
San Diego county and clears all previously displayed features.
 Set
Location - Use this tool to identify the location from which to search. THIS
TOOL IS ONLY AVAILABLE WHEN SEARCHING FOR A SERVICE.
 Print Map
Go to Print Map Page in order to print displayed map. To save the map:
while on the Print Map Page, right-click on the
map and choose to save the map image.

Employers When you click on the Employers
Button, you will get a list of
potential employers grouped by standard industry code (SIC) categories. You can display one or more
employers.
Training Programs This layer includes data provided by the San Diego Workforce Partnership on facilities that provide career training.
Child Care Facilities This layer includes data provided by the YMCA/CRS. It includes all the state licensed care providers in San Diego
county.
County Facilities This layer includes the Family Resource Centers and the Public Health Centers that are a part of the Health and Human Services Agency.
Libraries This layer includes all the public libraries within San Diego county.
Colleges This layer contains all the colleges and universities in San Diego county.
Hospitals This layer contains all the major hospitals in San Diego county.
Schools This layer contains all the elementary and middle schools in
San Diego county.
Bus Stops This layer includes all the public transportation stops and was provided by San Diego Association of Governments.
Bus Routes This layer was provided by the San Diego Association of Governments and includes all the public transportation routes in
San Diego county.
Freeways This layer contains the major freeways within San Diego county.

This will take you to the emPowerSD Home page.

Search for Service This will take you through the steps of locating, getting information, and driving directions for a service, such as a child care provider, school, hospital, etc. You can select any one of the services included under the Legend, and there are several ways you can reference a service. You can specify an address, a zip code, a school, a spot on the map, or a specific name. You can specify the distance around that reference that should be included in the search for a service.
View County Data If you want to see a display of any of the information layers that are shown in the Legend, click the box to the left of that layer and click refresh map. You can show as many layers of information as you want on the same map, however, too much information, at one time, makes the map difficult to read. You can use the map tools to zoom in or out for the level of detail that you want. You can also use the pan tool to position the map in the area of
San Diego county you would like to see.

Click on map to zoom in, zoom out,
pan, or identify map elements.
Whenever you change the layers to display on the map, you must click the
Refresh Map button, which will cause the map to be redrawn with your changes.
